Easy Teriyaki Beef Mushroom Recipe

When it is a school night we try to whip something up quick and delicious. This is one of my go to recipe for its convenience and prep time is only 5 minutes! Its all just chopping and throwing it into the wok. 

This recipe is really tasty and flavorful without much effort. My kids love this dish with rice and some boiled veggies on the side.

Ingredients:

  • Beef- cut into chunks (you may do little bite size cubes for your kids if they are little, so it is much easier to swallow)
  • 1 Onion-cut into little pieces (if your kids don’t like onion, you can try to cut it into very small pieces and the sauce for this dish will make the onion not noticeable to kids!)
  • Mushroom- cut also into little pieces
  • Teriyaki sauce: I use Veri Veri Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce  since I like the hint of sesame they have inside
  • bonito flakes – you can use any brand, most Asian supermarket should have it available
  • Butter

Note that I didn’t really put the amount you need for any of the ingredient I’ve stated above because I feel each dish I make isn’t really something you need to be precise to have it taste good. Do as you wish and according to your own mama taste buds. 

Step 1: Chop everything into bite size pieces so it is easier for the kids to chew. Note: My kids like bigger pieces, so I didn’t cut it too small. Also picture contains some udon noodle as my kids like it for lunch vs. having rice. We usually make more of a dish so that it is pack-able for lunch. WhatsApp Image 2018-02-06 at 9.56.25 AM

Step 2: Time to start cooking! Once the pan is heated, put in a little bit of butter (not too much because the beef usually have oil fat for later use). Once the butter melts, you would put in the chopped onion to sauteed for a quick minute or once you see that its half golden.

You don’t want to over cook the onion because it will become really soggy, unless you are trying to cover the onion taste you can let it cook longer.

Step 3: Throw in the beef chunks and let it cook with the onion. I usually cook it half way done before I put in the sauce. You don’t want to cook it all done because that will make it super hard to chew on. WhatsApp Image 2018-02-06 at 9.56.26 AM (1)

Step 4: We put in the sauce to let it do it’s magic! You pour whatever amount feels comfortable for you. Like I said, Mama knows what is best for the house.

mix mix mix, let the beautiful smell of onion and beef cook! I usually put the mushroom in last because it cooks very quickly and I don’t want it to become super soggy. If you like it more soft, you would put the mushroom in before the sauce.

Once you put everything on a plate, you can put the bonito flakes on top!

There you have it. A nice easy dish that really takes little time to prep and no marinating needed. As busy moms, it is hard to find time marinating and perfecting a dish. I don’t know about other moms, but I personally create simple and new dishes on the go all the time! I would look into the refrigerator to see what I have and work with it.
