In the Bay Area, we have tons and tons of hot pot places that serves the typical broth + ayce meat + veggies. I’ve heard about this new place and wanted to give it a try since their gimmick is a bit different than other places. They start off your hot pot experience with a “Chicken dry pot” which is basically a Spicy Chicken pot with lots of flavors meddling in your mouth. I would highly recommend this place if you like the idea of hot pot but wanted to add a little twist to your mouth.

WhatsApp Image 2018-03-20 at 10.43.49 AM.jpeg

The Chicken pot is nice and spicy with full of flavor. The portion is not really big so it is more of a appetizer  before you wait for the real course to come. Once you are done with all the chicken, the waiters will add a broth into the same pot for you to start your hot pot.

They have a good selection of meat and vegetables for an AYCE place

We especially liked their fish paste things, it seems to be that it is home made at the location. It is not super doughy and you definitely can still taste the fish.

That is all the meat we were chopping on! It’s nicely and thin cut! Dip it in your self served and self picked sauce, your ready to go!

If you like Chinese street style food. You need to give this place a try. It is super cheap and super good. You see lots of regular foreign students coming here on a daily basis. The average wait time is about 30 mins to 1 hour. It is super popular among locals. It is a restaurant with bunch of skewers. Lots of meat and good portions of side dishes.

They don’t really speak English, so you may want to bring a Chinese speaking person to go with you. It is not a very visible restaurant. In fact, it don’t even look like a restaurant from the outside. They have blinds covering everything. Once you get in, you will feel as if you arrived to China. It’s not really a clean place for those who really care to eat at somewhere that is clean. It’s more of the type where there are table settings and your sitting on the streets eating street food; this is really what skewers are all about in China.

you order these little lamb skewers, it is about 60 cents each. We usually get a bunch at once, because its super yummy and it is really bite size. You can go through many sticks without noticing that it is all finish! oh yea, it is really good with some beer as well!

WhatsApp Image 2018-03-15 at 11.05.55 AM (3)

The cucumber is marinated with sauce and garlic. Your mouth will smell stinky afterwards but it is super super yummy and crunchy! This comes out before the skewer, so you can nibble while waiting

WhatsApp Image 2018-03-15 at 11.05.55 AM (2)

They have these yum seafood. Juicy and piping hot when it comes out. BBQ style the Chinese way. It’s really good.

You also have lots of options to have dishes steam in aluminum foil then put no the grill. The steam will create water which leaves certain items better that way.

This place don’t have high reviews on yelp, but probably because they didn’t pay for advertisement! haha! but don’t let that stop you from going. It really is for the heart of soul. For those who really know and ate skewers in China before.  This place is good for a midnight snack and for dinner. Most people take skewers as beer food but I can eat it anytime! IT IS THAT GOOD TO ME!

Don’t we all love caffeine? If not, that is fine we have lots of non caffeine selection and pastries to please you. I’ve stumble upon this little gem on my way to hiking. They have regular good espressos and coffee. But if you are looking for some variety, they have lavender latte, honey rose latte, almond latte to name a few. The aroma and ambiance is just so soothing with their music on. I can sit there all day with my laptop and sip on my coffee with a bite of pastry.

WhatsApp Image 2018-03-15 at 10.20.25 AM (7)

I think their espresso is super strong and good. It is all over europe. When I lived in London and Norway, Illy was everywhere and I hide out in those shops for hours to get my homework done + calm myself.

WhatsApp Image 2018-03-15 at 10.20.25 AM (3)

I love how their coffee is in tin cans so it would stay fresh and seal the coffee in better than the paper bags. I always take some home with me for my morning coffee run.

WhatsApp Image 2018-03-15 at 10.20.25 AM

you can see they have a wide selection of pastry and good. Don’t be shy on trying some. The servers are really nice here. You can have them toast up or warm something for you if you like it warm. There are many sweet treats and savory bites. So it really do satisfy everyone. You can really be here for the whole day eating a pastry in the morning and having a sandwich for lunch! haha

WhatsApp Image 2018-03-15 at 10.20.25 AM (1)

They have super clean and nice decor here. I love their little espresso cups and I find these super cute as they have drawing and art pieces from famous people and country. It is literally all over their shop! you can always pick one up. I use to collect these at home. I would buy one from each country I visit where I see illy!

WhatsApp Image 2018-03-15 at 10.20.25 AM (5)

ha! Just in case you don’t see. They have the big one right in front of the store and inside way in the back for picture posing!

Are you looking for some yummy cheap finds of filling lunch?! I love this place! I’ve stopped by this place after a long hike and decided to get their lunch special. It was a pork chop dish with gravy + Free Milk Tea + Free pot sticker + Free soup.

I love the word Free! It just makes everything taste better. It was a good start of my meal to be served hot soup + a pot sticker before my main dish came. It is not a fancy place but it does justice to your tummy.

WhatsApp Image 2018-03-15 at 9.43.40 AM

The pot sticker was piping hot which is how I like them. The bottom was nice and crispy while the inside is hot with some meat and veggy! The soup is nice and warm with really soft carrots boiling.

WhatsApp Image 2018-03-15 at 9.43.40 AM (1)

My main dish is this gravy porkchop rice! OH lord it was yummy. The pork chops else where is usually fried/ panfried but this one seemed like it was roasted and roasted tender. It falls apart into pieces easily and its super smooth. People with poor teeth can still eat this ahah. They also don’t shy away from putting more gravy on the dish. LOVE IT!

WhatsApp Image 2018-03-15 at 9.43.41 AM (1)

The other yummy ox tail dish.

This is also one of the favorites for people who regularly dine here. So I had to give it a try, and oh my god! It is so tender and juicy! The dish was super savory and the amount was generous! Sometimes, the beef may be too hard to chew on and would not taste good, but the tendon and meat in this dish was superb! MUST TRY

You definitely don’t leave this place hungry because it is a really filling restaurant. I think it has exist for quite a long time, so there really isn’t any fancy decoration or renovation. It really is about the good food and that is about it. Come eat and go kind of style. Fast and nice. While I was eating, I felt like this was a real genuine neighborhood type of storefront since it seems like everyone knew each other. The waiters called most of the parties by its name and always asked if they needed more! It’s such a homey and happy restaurant find in Chinatown SF.

Come give it a try for yourself and let me know what you think of this place.

Who don’t like sweets and extravagant flavors?! I love how they have seasonal flavors and condiments. I chose the Honey Lavender today, if you do like Lavender items this will please you. The aroma is awesome. Once you walk into the store, you can smell the sweetness of the waffle cones in the making! You need to come and give this new place a try. It’s fairly new in Hayes Valley, but I know there are a few more other stores around the bay area + Seattle.

The ice cream is definitely on the sweeter side.

You can do a bunch of tastings before you decide on your favorite. If you really just love a few, they have the tasting flight which they allow you to pick about 3 flavors to indulge. I would recommend the tasting if you have a group of people, with your kids or just because you love ice cream.

The service may be a bit on the slower side because people do ask for samples, so there may be those few who tastes many flavors. If you don’t have much time, they have the prepacked pints in the fridge for you to take on the go.

Do you like Japanese food? or fresh sashimi? If you do, you can try this new hip restaurant that puts japanese + sashimi in a bowl for those who need to grab a quick bite. I feel that poke bowls are a new trend that has been happening these few years where people want to eat “healthy” and on the go. For those who don’t want to hinder their palate and still be able to eat some good meals quickly, they’ve come up with the bowl. The Poke bowl.

Photo of Poke Supreme - Milpitas, CA, United States. Salmon

I tried this place out through Groupon and it didn’t fail to please. The price is good for the portion, specially with the groupon. They let you pick 3 to 4 types of fresh sashimi and unlimited sauce of your choice. You can either have the poke bowl with brown rice, white rice or organic salad.

Photo of Poke Supreme - Milpitas, CA, United States. their set up

I usually want everything on my bowl since I think the ingredients all blend well. Might cut down on the onions though, since it gives me bad breath after ahah! Don’t be shy on asking for more of a certain topping you like, they are usually pretty generous.

My kids like spam masubi, so we got 2. It is $2 each, but the spam was very thin so you may want to skip that. For the tea choice, they always have specials that are $5 for 2. We usually get it when they have the deal, otherwise you can skip that as well. It is nothing really to rave about.

Photo of Poke Supreme - Milpitas, CA, United States. Amazing flavors. Friendly staff.

KitCat is questioning why the spam is so thin with lots of rice. We prefer a bigger piece of meat and more unagi sauce!

Overall, this is a good place for a quick grab of food without long waits. We will be back. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that you can go on Tuesdays and save $2 for any bowl you pick!

Ever looking for a good refreshing salad that is healthy + flavorful, SOUVLA is definitely the way to go. This is my go to spot for salads when i’m craving for something “healthy” and tasty. The portion is huge and they put ample amounts of meat into the salad. You will feel stuffed when you come out- in a good way.  I like to usually get the salad with pork shoulder.

Their menu is quite simple, they have 3 types of main meat that can be made to a wrap or salad.  If you come with a friend, you may want to get a wrap cut in half and a salad split in half. Don’t be shy because they are very nice with their service. They will help you split it into 2 bowls and plates.

This place is the bomb for greek salads and wraps! + frozen yogurt! (greek style)

The froyo is the best if you like sour and tart type of ice cream. I usually get the one with olive oil and sea salt! You may first think it sounds weird to have salt on sweet treats. But you will be amazed how well it will blend in with your froyo! Give it a try and let me know what you think.

They have cheap Rose with generous pouring for those who may want to grab a drink while enjoying their meal. Even though the price is cheap, it don’t mean that it tastes bad. It’s actually quite refreshing and tasty!

This restaurant is raved by many critics for its authentic Chengdu spicy food. When we walked into the place, it is surprising to see different groups of people ordering. This is one of the closest authentic Szechuan food we can get in the States. My friend was tearing and still won’t stop indulging into the pot of spicy boiled greatness! haha. This is definitely a must for those who likes spicy or wants to take a challenge to their palate. There were numerous dishes to try at this spot but i’ll introduce to you a few that was my personal favorite.

Its cold, so I like soup. I ordered this pork feet soup pot which is full of richness and natural collagen that is good for the ladies!

WhatsApp Image 2018-02-27 at 10.45.25 AM (1).jpeg

  • we indulged every bit of the soup
  • the pork and skin is very soft and meat breaks off easily
  • you can taste the thick creamy soup being super rich of collagen
  • the onion gives the soup a very good aroma

WhatsApp Image 2018-02-27 at 10.45.25 AM.jpeg

This was a pot of green chili numbing skewers!

  • you can not drink the broth because it will numb you! but that’s one of the reason why people like to order this dish
  • lots of little pieces to eat from
  • the veggies are definitely soaked with spiciness!
  • they have chicken tendon inside that gives the dish a good crunch
  • a fun dish to start off your spicy challenge

WhatsApp Image 2018-02-27 at 10.45.23 AM.jpeg

This is another bowl of pure spice in your mouth! They call it “Great Blood Bowl”

  • the spam is soaked with spicy sauce and tastes good
  • may be a bit on the oily side, so do note that you may be going to the restroom quite often for the next day coming
  • pork blood is very tender and not hard to chew
  • the intestines are very clean (as some place don’t clean it well, will have a smell to it); i’m not a great fan of intestines so I didn’t enjoy it much. But my husband loved it
  • this is a dish that you must eat with rice! trust me!!! Rice + spicy food is a great combo!

WhatsApp Image 2018-02-27 at 10.45.24 AM (1)

The garlic pork belly

  • This dish is not that spicy, the pepper just gives it a nice aroma
  • the garlic is abundant in this dish! so do prepare to stink haha! if you don’t mind that, you will love this dish
  • its a cold dish
  • portion size for this dish is pretty small, so you can probably get this as an appetizer
  • the pork belly is really thin which makes it easy to chew! it was soft and tender! yummm in my mouth

Photo of Chengdu Taste - Alhambra, CA, United States

The mung bean noodle (note I forgot to take a picture of this dish so I got it from another reviewer)

  • the noodle taste like “glass noodles”
  • the noodle actually has taste to it; sometimes, some places make it very bland and the noodles will have no taste or they would just overpower the dish with pepper
  • the dish is cold
  • the nuts and onions on top is an absolute must! it makes the dish so much better

Purple Latte: Hot/Cold

  • Very thick
  • foamy
  • lukewarm, I would prefer it to be hot
  • not overly sweet

Soft Serve:

  • not overly sweet
  • very creamy

Shaved Ice:

  • The ice is with cream +milk flavor, so it is already very sweet itself; it is not just regular shaved ice with no flavor
  • Good sauce on the side
  • It comes with complimentary purple chips!
  • They put some nuts/oatmeal thing on top which makes it crunchy!

It is not a cheap sweet spot since the price is pretty high for a small portion. But, I still recommend this place since it is very nice to sit inside and you can see they do put their heart into decorating the place into a purple themed parlor!
